Letter from the President of PA Freestyle

Dear PA Freestyle members,

It has been a busy offseason for the board.

As many know, there were some issues brought up by the coaches regarding the conduct of the board.  A letter of accusations was authored and meetings that included Seven Springs management occurred.  No impropriety of by-laws, misconduct, or misuse of funds occurred.

With that distraction behind us, we prepare for the upcoming season in hopes El Nino will be generous with snowfall.  We have named a new program director and now have head coaches for moguls, slopestyle, and snowboard and are actively interviewing prospective associate coaches.

The structure has changed, yet who and what we are as a club has not.  We will have a development program (young guns) for the younger and new athletes, contrary to what some have heard.  This will include consistent coaches and better exposure to all the freestyle disciplines.  And we expect it to be even more successful and continue to grow.

There has been an increase in membership fees; this reflects the increased cost of the organization.  Please remember this is a non-profit organization, the board is a voluntary position without remuneration and our goal is to place 10-20% of the budget aside for capital improvements.  All other monies are spent on coaching, insurance and necessary items.

We are passionate about freestyle snowsports and expect our athlete-participants to strive for excellence and happiness within the sport.  We have also encouraged parents to become more involved in the club by serving on committees.  If you have interest in serving on a committee, please contact a board member or the program director.

I would like to thank Alan English and Rachel Duda for their service on the board and commitment to PA Freestyle.  Please also welcome Paul Cline and Andy Falk.  All board members have a deep passion and commitment to freestyle skiing; we meet regularly and devote significant time and energy to PA freestyle while maintaining our lives as parents and professionals.

For those who do not know I have two daughters, Linsey and Emily, who compete in moguls.  I am a Pittsburgh orthopaedic surgeon and team physician for the US Freestyle Ski Team for the past 8 years, traveling and caring for the athletes.   I have skied at Seven Springs since I was 2 years old.

I cannot wait for it to start snowing and the season to begin.  I hope to provide updates during the season.   For questions or concerns, you can contact program director, Jody Proudfit ( ) or myself.
